As many of you will know Mike started 2022 facing heart by-pass surgery, which successfully took place in February. Inevitably such major surgery required all the grit and determination that had been such a hallmark in his playing days, to get Mike through the recovery and rehabilitation period. By early May he was travelling from Durban to Manchester to take part in the celebration dinner at Old Trafford, before flying to the USA to visit family. Visit our “Events” section for a full run down of the events that Mike attended last year.
Back home in the Durban area, there were exceptionally heavy rains during April resulting in major flooding around the city. The area around Ottawa school was not spared and the Foundation contributed to helping the school pupils with new schoolwear to replace that lost to the waters.
Towards the end of the year we started talking with another primary school in the area to provide similar services to those we provide to Ottawa. We are delighted to report that we have started to work with Solomon Mahlangu primary school in the Cornubia area of Durban and look forward to setting up sporting activities to support the children at the primary school. This fulfils one of the early aims of the Foundation – to extend our services to other schools in the area.
Lastly, we would like to thank all of our donors who regularly provide critical funding to help enable the Foundation to achieve its mission to introduce and encourage sporting ethos and values into the lives of underprivileged and vulnerable children through the provision of cricket coaching and general sporting and physical education opportunities.
